Life, Reliability and Survival Models
REG5
Duration : 1.0 day(s)
:: Course Summary
This workshop deals with modeling techniques used for life data (time-to-event) and their specific features, the interpretation of results, strengths and weaknesses and also discusses their practical realization. Several applications in the social sciences, engineering and life sciences will be presented.
:: Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this training course, participants will have learned:
The motivation and the principle underlying statistical tools to analyze life data
To be able to use tools used to compare survival curves
To know the scope and limitations of the various approaches available
:: Target Audience
This applied training session in statistics is aimed at all scientific staff who collect data and who must make decisions based on them. The regression techniques covered in this session will be particularly useful for people who are interested in analyzing time-to-event data: time during which people stay in their job, time before a part breaks, survival of patients after treatment.
:: Prerequisite
This training session deals with the analysis of life data with special regression techniques.
Participants should know the essential tools in simple and multiple linear regression. They must have used it before and know how to detect common modeling problems and how to solve them, etc.
Either by having attended the training session
Linear and Multiple Linear Regression Techniques
or possess an equivalent level.
:: Topics Covered
Reliability and failure time data: typical questions
Importance of reliability
From simple to more complex cases
The bathtub curve (U shaped)
Questions of interest
Introduction to Life Data
Historical origin
A widening range of applications
What are life data ?
Specific data acquisition and analysis issued
Typical layout of results
Need to Use Specific Data Analysis Methods

Regression models: Cox and alternatives
Semiparametric models
Accelerated life models: principle and limitations
Summary
:: Course Content
This one-day session covers regression models for life data, a technique used to analyze time-to-event data. The training covers the objectives of such regression techniques, modeling, parameter estimation, interpretation of model coefficients, goodness-of-fit and validation measures, prediction in regression, problems commonly encountered in regression, ways to detect them and to solve them.
