:: Course Summary

This workshop gives participants the opportunity to put into practice the methods seen during the different seminars on regression analysis and to apply them on their own data sets using their own statistical software with the support of experienced instructors here to assist them.

:: Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Validate their data before running a regression analysis

Format their data according to the specifications of their software to fit a regression

Determine the most appropriate regression technique to solve a given problem

Fit a regression with their software

Produce insightful diagnostics and graphical summaries to assess model quality

Extract the relevant and important information from the software output

Interpret and draw conclusions from the results of a regression

:: Target Audience

This applied workshop is intended for people who wish to put regression techniques into practice. It focuses on turning a modeling issue into a tractable regression problem and is therefore intended to researchers, marketing professionals and business analysts wanting to improve their practice of data modeling.

:: Prerequisite

Participants must have a good working knowledge of Principal Component Analysis or they must have attended the training session Fundamental Tools in Statistics.

:: Notes and Other Information

Supported software are: SAS, SPSS, XLSTAT, JMP, Statistica and Minitab. If you use another software and you wish to attend this workshop, contact us.

Course Specifications for Registered Participants :

We invite you all to bring your laptop containing your statistical analysis software of choice and, optionally, your own data as well. This will help you get the most out of the workshop by seeing the immediate application of statistical techniques using your own data and software.
Please let us know what software package you are planning to use so that we may plan accordingly.
We will provide sample datasets for those you who prefer not to bring your own data.
For those who wish to bring data, we recommend your dataset contain at least three variables and should not contain any text phrases. The file should contain solely one variable per column with a header row for variable names. This will simply help save time if any data manipulation is required during the workshop. At your request, we would be happy to validate your data file prior to the course for proper formatting.

:: Topics Covered

This workshop does not follow a strict course outline as its objective is to allow participants to practice using their software to run a regression analysis on their data and interpret the output.
During this half-day workshop, participants will learn how to:

Appropriately format their data based on their software specifications
Determine the most appropriate technique to solve a specific problem
Run a regression with their software
Extract the most useful information from the software output
Produce graphical displays and summaries
Interpret the results and draw conclusions
